June is National Safety Month
There are about 340 million occupational accidents and 160 million victims of work-related illnesses annually. An estimated 156,300 preventable injury-related deaths occurred in homes and communities, or about 78% of all preventable injury-related deaths.
Safety Resources
It’s time to repair broken steps, clean out the medicine cabinet, and install lighting in dim hallways – June is National Safety Month. This event, which brings national attention to accident prevention, is sponsored by the National Safety Council (NSC), a member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
Safety is more critical than ever, and the National Safety Council remains committed to saving lives and preventing injuries, from the workplace to anyplace.
June is National Safety Month. Given the current state of the world, this annual recognition will look a little different than in past years.
NSC will provide real-time, relevant resources on pressing topics, including mental health, ergonomics, building a safety culture and more. Visit nsc.org/nsm to learn how you can get involved and access free materials.
Safety Tips
The National Safety Month site provides a list of tips for protecting against accidental falls, both at home and at work, as well as specific tips for aging adults, including:
Clean Up
Use Rugs
Exercise Regularly
Ladders
Inspect ladders before and after every use.
Be Careful On Stairs
Slippery Steps
Wear Proper Footwear
Athletic shoes greatly reduce the risk of falls among the elderly. The risk of falling increases if in stocking feet or barefoot.
