Russell Maier, MD, named President for The University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Network
YAKIMA, WA – Central Washington Family Medicine Residency Program, a service of Community Health of Central Washington (CHCW), is pleased to announce that Russell Maier, MD, Program Director has been named the President of the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Network.
The University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Network is a group of family medicine residency programs related to each other by geography and university affiliation. The Network is one of the largest residency networks in the United States and now consists of eighteen affiliated residency programs located within the WWAMI region – Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. There are twelve programs in Washington, two programs in Idaho, two programs in Wyoming, and one program each in Montana and Alaska.
The Network exists to promote excellence in family medicine residency education, provide academic leadership, and to respond to societal needs for family physicians. The quality of the individual programs is high, reflected in the number and quality of applicants and residents, the excellence of the faculty, and the strong support of the sponsoring hospitals in providing up-to-date facilities and skilled staff.
Dr. Maier currently serves as an active faculty member and the Program Director for Central Washington Family Medicine Residency (CWFMR) in Yakima. In addition, he is a Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Maier holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Biology from Carleton College in Northfield, MN and a Medical Degree from University of Washington School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Program and is board-certified in Family Medicine.

Central WA Family Medicine Residency Program, a service of Community Health of Central Washington, is a 30 resident family medicine residency program and provides a rich learning experience. Residents learn to provide community based comprehensive and continuous ambulatory care to medically underserved patients representative of the cultural, socio-economic and demographic diversity of Central Washington. The program provides full spectrum Family Medicine training including obstetrics, integrated behavioral health, osteopathic manipulation medicine, procedural training and inpatient pediatric and adult medicine. Residency is the last component of physician training following medical school and prior to specialty certification and entry into independent practice.
